Shillong is the capital of Meghalaya, one of the smallest states in India. It is also the district headquarters of the East Khasi Hills District and is situated at an average altitude of 4,908 ft (1,496 m) above sea level, with the highest point being "lum shyllong" at 1965m.

Shillong is located at 25°34'N; 91°53'E. Due to its latitude and high elevation, Shillong has a sub-tropical climate with mild summers (temperature: 15° - 28°C) and chilly to cold winters (temperature: 2° - 15° C).

How to reach Shillong?
The nearest railway station and major airport are situated at Guwahati (Assam). Guwahati is well connected with all the major cities of India. Shillong is connected by all weather road (N.H. 40) to Guwahati, a distance of 103 km. Frequent bus, Tata Sumo and taxi (on reserved and shared basis) services are available from Guwahati airport/railway station, and it takes about 3-4 hours to reach Shillong from there.
