Nehu Celebrates 141st Birth Anniversary Of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel As National Unity Day

The University celebrated 141st Birth Anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel as the National Unity Day (Rashtriya Ekta Diwas) on 31st October, 2016. For this, an event of RUN FOR UNITY was organised at the NEHU Main Campus. The run also covered the adjoining Umshing village to spread the awareness about Unity for the Nation among the people of the society. A large number of students, non-teaching staff and teachers of all genders took active participation in the event of the run which was flagged off by the Vice Chancellor, Prof. S.K.Srivastava at 7.00 a.m from the gate number 5 and ended at the office of the Vice Chancellor. The Vice Chancellor, Prof. Srivastava motivated and boosted the morale of all the runners by participating himself in the event with great enthusiasm. Prizes for the winners in different categories was an added attraction.

After the run, all the participants and organisers observed silence for one minute in the regard and memory of the great martyrs who laid their lives unconditionally for the integrity and peace for their great nation, India. This followed with a Pledge taken by all for Unity, Integrity and  Security of the Nation. The programme finished with National Anthem.

NEHU is also organising an Essay Writing Competition for all the students of the University on 3rd November, 2016 at the NEHU Campus in the memory and honour of the contribution and efforts of Sardar Patel towards the unification of independent India.
