National Symposium on Bioresources

The Department of Botany, North-Eastern Hill University (NEHU), Shillong in collaboration with the Institute of Bioresources and Sustainable Development (IBSD), Imphal organised a two-day National Symposium on Bioresources and Sustainable Development & 2nd National Bioresources and Sustainable Development Summit’ at NEHU, Shillong on October 28-29, 2015. Hon’ble Governor of Meghalaya, Shri V. Shanmuganathan, who is also the Rector of the University, graced the valedictory session of the symposium as Chief guest and appreciated the Department of Botany, NEHU and IBSD for organising such an important event where more than 200 scientists from different parts of the country participated. He said that the symposium provided a platform where distinguished scientists from all over the country and young researchers together deliberated on strategies for sustainable development of bioresources in the country. He interacted with the participating students, faculty members and distinguished scientists on the use of bioresources for sustainable development of the country. He appealed to the scientists to undertake appropriate research to address the problem of crop failure in the country leading to farmers’ suicide, and also to develop drugs from bioresources for curing cancer. The symposium was inaugurated by Prof. Sri Krishna Srivastava, Vice-Chancellor, NEHU, Shillong on 28th October, 2015.  During the symposium, Padma Shree Pramod Tandon, Professor of Botany and an eminent scientist was felicitated on his superannuation from NEHU service.
