Prof. SK Barik’s outstanding contributions to biodiversity science, threatened plant conservation, forest ecology, ecosystem restoration, mountain agriculture, species response to climate change, and value addition of bioresources have been innovative and quantitative, and are widely cited/followed globally. Published 130 research papers in SCI international journals, 50 research articles in other journals and as book chapters, 40 booklets and technical reports, 12 popular scientific articles, 11 patents, six plant-based health care products developed and commercialized, editor/guest editor of eight journals of international repute, and 24 Ph. Ds awarded under his supervision. More than 36 years of research experience and 27 years of Post Graduate teaching experience at NEHU, Shillong, and CSIR-National Botanical Research Institute (CSIR-NBRI), Lucknow. Served as Head, Department of Botany, NEHU, Shillong for about three years, six years as Director of CSIR- NBRI, about two years as Director, CSIR- Indian Institute of Toxicology Research (CSIR- IITR) (Additional charge), and more than three years as CSIR Theme Director of Agriculture, Nutrition and Biotechnology theme administering the programmes of 32 CSIR institutions across the country under the theme. Implemented more than 40 R&D national and international projects as Principal Investigator including 12 mega-projects as National Chief Technical adviser/Team Leader/National and International Coordinator. He Served/ is serving as Chairman/Expert Member of more than 110 Scientific Committees of Govt. of India and State Governments. Visited and worked in scientific institutions/universities in Mexico, China, Pakistan, Japan, Ecuador, Australia, Singapore, Nepal, Bangladesh, Germany, France and Switzerland.
