Mother Tongue Day Observed in NEHU


Following the steps of the footsteps of UNESCO which observes 'International Mother Language Day' in order to promote 'fuller awareness on linguistic and cultural traditions based on understanding, tolerance and dialogue, the University Grants Commission has declared February 21 as 'Matribhasha Diwas' or Mother Tongue Day and urged all Universities to hold activities that promote the linguistic diversity in the country. Martyr's Day Observed


The North-Eastern Hill University observed two minutes silence on January 30 in front of the Administrative Building, in memory of those who gave up their lives in the struggle for India’s freedom.  January 30 (1948) is also the day that Mahatma Gandhi was assassinated and that’s why the Government of India announced the day as Shaheed Diwas or Martyr’s Day.

The North-Eastern Hill University Football (Men) Team qualifies for the All India Inter University Football Tournament 2017-18


The North-Eastern Hill University Football (Men) team took part in the East Zone Inter University Tournament held at the Rajiv Gandhi University, Itanagar, Arunachal Pradesh under the aegis of Association of Indian Universities, New Delhi from the 27th November to the 5th December 2017. The NEHU team became 3rd place holder in the tournament out of 36 participating Universities. The team has qualified for the All India Inter University Football (Men) Tournament 2017-18 to be held at the Calicut University, Kerala from the 31st December 2017 to the 5th January 2018. NEHU Observes Constitution Day


In keeping with the University Grants Commission (UGC) directive to all varsities to celebrate November 26 as "Sanvidhan Divas" to commemorate the adoption of the country's Constitution, the faculty and non-teaching staff of North-Eastern Hill University read out the Preamble and fundamental duties on November 27 at the Committee Room, permanent campus. Sounding the Alarm on Diabetes World Diabetes Day was observed at NEHU in the form of an awareness program for university students, faculty and staff on November 14, 2017. The program was organised by the NEHU Health Centre in association with Meghalaya Diabetes Association and North East Diabetes Society. NEHU Rock Concert Kicks off New India Movement


A rock concert featuring the Shillong band Street Stories and a few artists from NEHU was held at the Convocation Hall on September 8, 2017. The concert was a result of a directive sent to all the IITs and central universities by the Human Resource Development Ministry asking them to host "patriotic music bands" as part of the government's drive to mark 70 years of India’s independence and 75 years of the Quit India Movement. A Biometric Enrolment (BME) Camp for generating of Aadhaar Numbers is currently underway at the North-Eastern Hill University campus, Shillong. The Office of the Deputy Commissioner, East Khasi Hills District, Meghalaya has initiated the process for regular NEHU employees (both Teaching & Non-Teaching) along with their family members (aged over five years) and bonafide NEHU students at the Community Hall during office hours (9.30 AM-5.00 PM) from August 25 to September 1, 2017.
