Introduction The Bioinformatics Infrastructure Facility (BIF) was established at the department of Rural Development and Agricultural Production, North-Eastern Hill University, Tura Campus in the year 2008 with the financial support from the Department of Biotechnology, Government of India under the Biotechnology Information System Network (BTISnet) programme. The primary objective of this facility is to promote biology teaching through bioinformatics (BTBI). The goal of this scheme is to expose teachers and students to real-world of science and the use of bioinformatics (Cyber bioscience) in solving hard core biological problem. It also periodically organizes hands-on trainings on various aspects of application of bioinformatics tools and molecular techniques in biological research. The Department of Rural development and Agricultural Production is a multidisciplinary science which includes rural development, agronomy, horticulture and animal science. The department is actively engaged in the research activities on different issue like rural and social development, horticulture, agronomy, livestock management, environment and life sciences, bio-technology and food security, local governance etc. The facility aims not only educational and research initiatives, but also vouches for human resource development in the areas of bioinformatics by conducting Training programmes for staff, students and community. |
