Objetives

Creating an ecosystem for innovation through

• To promote a culture of innovation and creativity in a multidisciplinary environment with involvement of appropriate social stake-holders, where possible;
• Nurturing in-house talent of the university for promotion of all forms of innovation;
• Preparation of platform for creativity design development, design promotion and partnership across multiple sectors, states, and regions for integrating design with traditional and technological resources
• Promote knowledge sharing and collaboration amongst industry, academia, Government institutions, research laboratories, etc
• To enhance interdisciplinary design-focussed innovation and creativity.
• To facilitate interdisciplinary design-focussed education, research and entrepreneurial activities in order to create commercial opportunities and build partnership between academics and industry
• To create an ecosystem facilitating students and faculty to take their innovative ideas from classrooms/ labs to market/people.
• To facilitate evolution of new models of academia-industry interactions as well as academia-social interactions and develop institutional networks for innovations in the thematic areas.
• To promote innovations which are both inclusive and disruptive
• To promote all forms of innovations in the complete value chain from process to products, including innovation as a discipline itself.
• To promote increased interactions/collaborations with institutes/organizations World-wide working in the areas of design and innovation.

The North - Eastern Hill University (NEHU) on 26th July 2021 has appointed a new Director of Design Innovation Centre (DIC), Prof. Don Syiem after the superannuation of Prof. R. N. Sharan. The DIC is now 5 years old which include two years of disruption by the pandemic. Beginning 2022 we are striving ahead to achieve new height of success. In May, 2022, the DIC was allocated a permanent space which is located at Center of Creativity & Internationalization of Higher Education, NEHU campus.

We are in the process of setting up well-equipped Tinkering/ Fab.labs/Studios. The DIC has organized the plantation drive on 4th June 2022 celebrated the World Environment day at Centre of Creativity & Internationalization of Higher Education, NEICOD building, NEHU. Students and faculty participated at the program.

Committees of DIC:

• The DIC has re-constituted the “University Advisory Committee” (UAC) with the approval of the Vice Chancellor, NEHU on the 1st July 2022.
• The DIC “Purchase Committee” with seven members was also constituted on 20th May 2022, following approval by the Vice Chancellor, NEHU.
