Recent activities

Workshop/Programs undertaken:
The DIC hub has jointly organized a 3-day National Seminar/workshop on “Economics and Social Impact of Medical Devices on the healthcare Sector in the country” on the 28th -30th April 2022 at dept. of Biomedical Engineering, NEHU. The event followed by the address of various speakers from NEHU and from outside. The following speakers were invited to help interns learn about innovation, entrepreneurship and modern business practices. Industry experts from India and abroad such as Australia and Canada participated in the session virtually during the Seminar to share their experience with the participants. Local entrepreneurs within state and across deliberated during the event. About 71 participants were present in the workshop including faculty members, research scholars and students from Biomedical Engineering, NEHU and some from other departments from NEHU campus and Institutions like NEIGRIHMS and NEIAH also participated. The sub-theme of the event focusses on “The Growth of Medical Devices in India- towards Atma Nirbhar Bharat”. During the workshop the expert speakers covered all the topics on Economics and Social Impact of Medical Devices on the Healthcare Sector in the Country.

Similarly, on 23rd May 2022 we had an interactive session related to “Micro Small Scale Medium Industries”.with the Ministry of MSME, Govt. of India at VC Conference room, Admn. Building, NEHU. There are about 30 participants attend the program including faculty, students and start-up. The Vice Chancellor praised the DIC and he also thanked Mr. Satish Kumar, MSME for explaining and presenting on the “Newly launched” MSME scheme and policies for academia, entrepreneurship and start-ups. The main aim of this program was to provide information to the faculty, student and entrepreneurs about the various activities and schemes under MSME and he also dwell at length on the IPR and related issues. He hoped through this presentation that a close tie-up between MSME and NEHU will be established.

The Department of Biomedical Engineering, NEHU conducting an online workshop for the 4th batch students on the 18th June 2022 on topic “Hospital Wastewater: Concerns, Treatment, and Disposal”  while the  Department of Architecture, NEHU had proposed project on March (2 weeks) on site area of 50 Sq.km on the Living Bridge Foundation (Traditional method), Pavilion structure.

The structure will be constructed from traditional materials including bamboo, areca palm, rattan, living ficus etc. in order to provide rigidity and strength materials such as steel rods or screws will also be used. The roof will be ideally woven in the traditional style from organic building materials.

  • IPR (Patent, Design Registration and copyright): The DIC has supported the filing of one patent which was awarded recently in July, 2022 to the former Director DIC Prof. R. N. Sharan.i.e., the patent is on “Bio monitoring device for detection and monitoring of cancer and a method thereof”.
