RECENT ACTIVITIES

1. Economics and Social Impact of Medical Devices on the Healthcare Sector in the Country” Jointly organized by the Design Innovation Centre (DIC) and Department of Biomedical Engineering, NEHU, Shillong in collaboration and sponsored by ICSSR NERC NEHU and DIC on the 28th – 30th April 2022 at Seminar Room, Department of Biomedical Engineering, NEHU, Shillong. Local entrepreneurs within state and across would be deliberating during the event. The Vice Chancellor, NEHU mark the importance of Innovations, development of new technologies in collaboration with the other institutes in the region and the country. The sub-theme of the event focuses on “the Growth of Medical Devices in India- towards Atma Nirbhar Bharat”. During the workshop the expert speakers covered all the topics on “Economics and Social Impact of Medical Devices on the Healthcare Sector in the Country”.

2. The DIC had an interactive session related to “Micro Small Scale Medium Industries". With the Ministry of MSME, Govt. of India at VC Conference room, Admn. Building, NEHU on 23th May 2022. There were about 30 participants attend the program including faculty, students and start-up. The MSME explain and presenting on the “Newly launched” MSME scheme and policies for academia, entrepreneurship and start-ups. The main aim of this program was to provide information to the faculty, student and entrepreneurs about the various activities and schemes under MSME and he also dwell at length on the IPR and related issues.

3. Department of Biomedical Engineering, NEHU - One day workshop has been conducted on the 18th June 2022 on “Hospital Wastewater: Concerns, Treatment, and Disposal” which Dr. Mayuri Chabukdhara, Assistant Professor, Department of Environmental Biology and Wildlife Science of Cotton University, Guwahati, Assam had given a lecture.

4. Department of Cultural & Creative Studies, NEHU has been running regular classes for the year 2022 engaging in the development work and future promotion of cultural innovation and creativity of the students coming from the fields of Folkloristic, clay exploration. The skills was based on experiential explorative and unconventional learning with the introduction to various materials and media as well as one-on-one engagement with master artisans through field trips and workshop to inculcate a “learning by doing” (experimental & experiential) attitude of students. The activities conducted were fundamentals of Art & Design each student was given the chance to explore the Elements and Principles as building blocks making students aware of the play of the visual vs. the verbal (the latter being a more familiar element to them). Each student sufficiently explored each exercise with open peer discussions and exchange of thought and critique.

5. Interactive Session on Augmentive Reality & Virtual Reality with Resource person from the University of Melbourne on the 18th January 2023 at NEHU DIC NEHU.

6. Participated in the All India DIC Meet: a confluence of ideas, thoughts and visions to promote collective advancement through innovation held at Delhi on the 6th February 2023 at Dr. Ambedkar International Centre (DAIC), Janpath, Windsor Place, New Delhi.

7. Department of Biomedical Engineering, NEHU. Tezpur University's DPIIT IPR Chair collaborated with the Design Innovation Centre, NEHU; Shillong jointly organized a one-day workshop on the Importance of IPRs for Startups, Research, and Academia to educate students and researchers about IPRs. The program was held on March 6, 2023. The goal of this day-long program was to address the importance of Intellectual Property Rights to students, researchers, and grassroots start-ups. Intellectual Experts Prof. Pritam Deb, DPIIT IPR Chair Professor, Tezpur University (Central University), Mrs. Dipamani Baishya, Project Scientist, Patent Information Centre, Science & Technology Division Assam Science Technology and Environment Council deliver lectures during the Workshop.

8. St. Mary’s College, Shillong (Spoke) conducting an Orientation Program on Innovations of Indigenous and Traditional Foods on the 4th August 2023.

9. Bamboo Workshop – Sustainable Construction towards a Resilient built Environment held on 29th September & 1st October 2023. Bamboo Workshop aimed at exploring various bamboo species, their workability, sustainability, preservation techniques, and their role in fostering resilient built environments which is often hailed as the “green steel,” holds immense potential in sustainable construction practices. With its rapid growth, high strength-to-weight ratio, and eco-friendly properties, bamboo offers a viable alternative to traditional building materials. In light of this, we propose a comprehensive Bamboo.

10. Department of Biomedical Engineering, NEHU conducted an online workshop on biomedical waste: Generation, treatment and disposal technique on the 10th December 2023. The Resource person for the workshop is Dr. Mayuri Chabukdhara, Assistant Professor and Teacher in-Charge, Department of Environmental Biology and Wildlife Sciences, Cotton University, Guwahati.

11. Beyond Earth: A unique three-day workshop dedicated to designing structures for outer space. This was a joint venture, organized by Design Innovation Center, NEHU Shillong and developed by Shillong based edu-tech startup Turbit, Shillong. "Beyond Earth" set the stage for participants from diverse backgrounds and age groups ranging from 14 to 26 to explore the art and science behind creating sustainable habitats for space living. The workshop, conceived by Turbit and led by Mritunjay Baruah, Research Associate at ISRO and alumni of NID Ahmedabad, saw attendees engaging in a series of interactive sessions including a virtual reality experience simulating the International Space Station, creating mock-ups and eventually creating prototypes of their ideas. The workshop was held on the 18th -20th December 2023.

12. Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) along with IIM Calcutta Innovation Park, PRIME Startup Hub, Meghalaya and Design Innovation Center (DIC), NEHU, Shillong jointly organized Tide 2.0 Northeast Techathon X-3 for 2-days on the 14th – 15th March 2024.

13. Workshop on “Arduino” held on the 25th – 26th April 2024 with Turbit, Shillong representative from different colleges and university participated with resource persons drawn also from local start-ups.

14. Participated in the All India DIC Meet 2024 which was held at IIT, Hyderabad on the 2nd -3th May 2024 and Shri K. Sanjay Murthy, Secretary, Ministry of Education, who joined us for a round table session and inaugurated the book launch.

15. Creative Catalyst Demo program was organized by DIC on the 7th May 2024. Various Start – Ups from Meghalaya attended the program.

16. Collaborative venture on Green Architecture with Technology University of Munich, Germany.
