DIC, in collaboration with SCSTE, Shillong Science Centre (SSC) and BRDC, organised a two-day programme for children above Class V on hydroponics, organic farming and sustainable food production. The programme aimed to introduce students to alternative and environmentally friendly approaches to food cultivation and help them understand the importance of sustainable agricultural practices.
On the first day, at Shillong Science Centre (SSC), students were introduced to the concept of hydroponics through interactive learning sessions, demonstrations and practical activities. They gained an understanding of soilless cultivation, plant growth requirements and the use of water-efficient techniques for growing plants.
On the second day, students visited BRDC for an exposure visit, where they gained practical insights into organic farming, cultivation practices, soil management and sustainable agricultural methods. The visit provided students with an opportunity to observe farming practices firsthand and understand how sustainable approaches can contribute to healthy food production and environmental conservation.
