The Design Innovation Centre (DIC) at North-Eastern Hill University (NEHU), Shillong, successfully organized a comprehensive three-day workshop on ‘Innovation, Design Thinking, and Entrepreneurship’ on the 19th, 20th & 23rd February 2026 at the DIC facility in the NEICOD Building. The event was officially inaugurated by Pro-Vice-Chancellor Prof. Sumarbin Umdor and Director Dr. S. Majaw.
Designed to foster creativity, hands-on problem-solving, and an entrepreneurial mindset, the multi-event programme brought together over 200 participants, spanning school students, undergraduates, and graduates. The workshop featured distinguished resource persons and expert speakers from premier institutions across the country, including SPA Delhi, IIT Hyderabad, University of Rajasthan, NIFT Shillong, IIM Kashipur, MSSDS (Meghalaya State Skill Development Society), PRIME Meghalaya, and NEHU Tura Campus.
Through intensive training sessions, expert mentors guided participants across key areas such as design thinking, rapid prototyping, funding strategies, product development, and marketing. A major highlight of the event was the competitive Ideation and Innovation Challenge, which saw a total of 10 participating teams utilizing specialized prototyping to develop creative solutions. Three teams—representing the School of Technology (SoT) NEHU, Army Public School Shillong, and Shillong College—emerged as the winners, receiving a cash prize of ???15,000 each, while the remaining 7 teams were awarded a consolation prize of ???5,000 each.
Additionally, the event hosted dynamic exhibition stalls featuring projects from school, undergraduate, and graduate innovators, while also welcoming visiting delegations from local schools to observe, interact, and network with leading academicians and industry professionals.
