UGC- HRDC NEHU, Shillong organized a two week Refresher Course in Tribal Studies for College and university teachers

A two week Refresher Course in Tribal Studies for College and university teachers was organized by UGC- HRDC NEHU, Shillong. The inaugural function held on 1st November, 2021 was presided by Dr K B Das, Assistant Professor,UGC HRDC,NEHU, Shillong

Prof. Streamlet Dkhar, Dean, School of Humanities, NEHU,Shillong while speaking as the Chief Guest on the occasion mentioned that the theme of the programme is highly appropriate in the present situation and stressed on the need to create awareness and to understand the term tribes, the diverse set of communities, the different diversity in terms of language, physical characteristics, culture and beliefs and their uniqueness. She also mentioned that Tribal Studies has a social context such as preservation of Culture, Multi – disciplinary approach to knowledge and that this programme will help the participants in getting different perspective on Tribal Studies.  She hoped that this Refresher Course will bring an expected outcome to be able to understand the social life and occupation of different Tribal Communities.She also lauded the efforts of UGC HRDC, NEHU in organising the programme and wish the best for the Coordinator and HRDC.

Prof. S Rama Rao, Director I/C, UGC HRDC, NEHU in his speech  welcomed the Dean and informed that this programme will cover a wide range of aspects with an overview on the different Tribes, Education & Higher education aspects which can be taken further and the importance of E-content in playing a crucial role in education in Tribal Areas. He also mentioned that 250 programmes have been organised by UGC  HRDC in the last 10 to 12 years.

Others, who spoke on the occasion include Dr (Mrs) Q Kharbuli, Associate Professor,UGC HRDC,NEHU,Coordinator.

Around 35 participants from North East India as well as others from different states of India took part in the programme.
