International Seminar Workshop on the "Economic and Social Impact of Medical Devices on the Healthcare Sector in the Country" concluded

The International Seminar Workshop being organized by the North-Eastern Hill University, Shillong on the “Economic and Social Impact of Medical Devices on the Healthcare Sector in the Country” in blended mode concluded on 30.04.2022.  The program was being organised by the Design Innovation Centre (DIC) and Department of Biomedical Engineering, NEHU, Shillong in collaboration and sponsored by ICSSR NERC NEHU and DIC.

The program brought forth experts from academia, industry, healthcare institutions, government agencies, medical experts, venture capitalists from across the country and abroad to deliberate on the vision and develop the roadmap for progress of the medical technology sector in the North East and India. The sub-theme of the event focussed on the Growth of Medical Devices in India- Towards Atma Nirbhar Bharat.  

The Valedictory programme was held after three days of extensive deliberation between experts on 30.04.2022.

Dr. Dinesh Bhatia, the program coordinator welcomed the dignitaries and apprised the objectives and outcome of the three days of extensive deliberations which took place involving experts from different fields from both India and abroad. He stressed upon the future roadmap and how the event would try to achieve them in the near future. He profusely thanked all stakeholders and government agencies involved in making the event successful. He emphasized on the role of local entrepreneurs within state and across to carry the discussions forward and turning the dreams into reality.

The Chief Guest of the event Prof. Animesh Mishra, Registrar I/c, NEIGHRIMS, Shillong emphasized on the importance of innovation and how it developed since the 18th century onwards. He outlined during his keynote address the difference and relation between invention and innovation and why organizing the Seminar was the need of the hour. He encouraged the young participants to enhance their skills for developing innovative healthcare technologies meeting societal needs for the advancement of the medical device sector in the country. 

Prof. B. Panda, Honorary Director, ICSSR-NERC, NEHU and Guest of Honor emphasized the role of artificial intelligence and machine learning in analysis of vast amount of data being generated in healthcare organizations and their meaningful analysis by employing advanced scientific tools. He stressed upon integration of social sciences with other streams such as engineering, so that more meaningful outcome can be achieved.

Dr. Punit Gautam, Joint Coordinator, in his vote of thanks conveyed his sincere gratitude to all stakeholders who made the event a grand success with their support and cooperation. He profusely thanked the University administration, press and media, industry and other agencies for supporting successful organization of the event.
