A faculty team of Shaheed Rajguru College of Applied Sciences for Women, University of Delhi visited Department of Environmental Studies, NEHU on 2nd June, 2022 for interaction with faculty, research scholars and M.Sc. students.
The Head of Department of Environmental Studies, NEHU, Dr. S. S. Chaturvedi, welcomed team leader Prof. Payal Mago, Director, School of Open Learning and Principal of the college, 14 faculty members of visiting team from different disciplines of the college, faculty, research scholars and M. Sc. Students of the department.
Prof. Mago shared her views on Eco-feminism and Ecological feminism. She also shared experiences of indigenous knowledge experienced during team’s visit to states like Rajasthan, Assam, Nagaland and UT Ladakh. It was told that team also collected information on different indigenous practices to protect common resources in these states during visit.
Prof. O. P. Singh of Department of Environmental Studies, NEHU stressed on the importance of understanding north-east as the socio-ecological conditions vary from state to state and tribe to tribe from rest of the country. He emphasised that the technologies used in these states may not be applicable in rest of India and vice-versa.
Dr. S. S. Chaturvedi stated that the traditional practices being used in any indigenous community are time tested and well adapted to the region and need of the people.
Prof. M. S. Bisht also expressed his views on various traditional practices used in Meghalaya. The use of Khasi Mandarin in ethnic dishes and its medicinal values were also discussed at length during interaction. Research scholars and M. Sc. students expressed their views on traditional knowledge and practices in traditional communities of the state.
In second session of interaction, Prof Payal Mago being Director, School of Open Leaning shared the activities /courses offered under open learning. She also stressed on the need of faculty/ student exchange program between NEHU and DU.
At the end of interaction, visiting team expressed their satisfaction and willingness to have more such interaction with NEHU fraternity.
