SNCI Workshop on Advanced Techniques in Healthcare inaugurated in NEHU

The Department of Biomedical Engineering, North Eastern Hill University, Shillong is organizing a week long Workshop on “Advanced Techniques in Healthcare” under the aegis of the 37th Annual Meeting of the Society of Neurochemistry India (SNCI) from 8th to 13th September, 2023.

The workshop was inaugurated by Prof. Animesh Mishra, Registrar I/c, NEIGRIHMS, Shillong, Prof. B. Panda, Honorary Director, NERC-ICSSR, NEHU, Prof. D. Kandar, Dean I/c, SoT, NEHU, Dr. Sudip Paul Teacher Incharge, BME, Dr. Dinesh Bhatia and Mr. Shyamal Mandal, Organizing Secretary and Joint Organizing Secretary respectively of the 37th Annual Meeting of SNCI alongwith other faculty members and staff of the University.

Participants from all parts of the country and abroad alongwith few selected local participants are attending this hands-on-training workshop which includes demonstrations and laboratory sessions. The aim of the week long Workshop is to provide participants with extensive knowledge with regards to the recent advancements in the development of healthcare technologies and how to translate research from laboratory to market or bench to bedside to make it customized and affordable. The key features of the Workshop lay emphasis on open scientific discussion with experts from academia, research organizations, scientists and industry professional, providing hands on laboratory training session with presentation of the participants through symposia and group meetings and direct interactions with experts from Industry.

In his opening remarks, Dr. Bhatia, enlightened the participants about the objectives of the Workshop and how it would be beneficial for the participants with emerging new technologies which are impacting all sectors especially the healthcare arena.  He profusely thanked all those involved in organizing the event including the press and media for giving widespread coverage to the event. He informed that Workshop would be followed by International Conference from 14th to 16th September, 2023 wherein more than 100 scientists, academicians, experts and delegates from India and abroad would attend the 37th Annual meeting at NEHU, Shillong

Prof. Kandar apprised participants about the applications of artificial intelligence, deep learning and machine learning in healthcare. He emphasized how they are changing the landscape in development of smart and affordable medical devices that could revolutionize the field of healthcare.  Prof. B. Panda emphasized on the economic and social aspects which requires to be understood while carrying out development and design of healthcare technologies by evaluating cost versus benefits for the society at large.

Prof, Animesh Mishra congratulated the event organizers for arranging such capacity building programmes on regular basis that would help the participants to develop their advanced skills thereby allowing dissemination of new knowledge and technological know-how to train working professionals and young minds to learn from challenges from past and build towards a new future for progress of mankind and the society at large.  He further stressed on the role of SNCI which was established in the year 1979 and how it has evolved over the years to develop the scientific temper in the field of neuroscience in the country and its role in grooming the budding scientists and researchers by utilizing existing resources from all parts of the country over the years since its inception.

Mr. Mandal in his vote of thanks address profusely thanked all those involved in smooth organization of the event and he wished that participants would have a pleasant stay in the campus and interact with people of the region to understand about the culture and traditions of the North-East region.
