Symposium on International Nanotechnology Day Celebrated at NEHU, Shillong

The Department of Nanotechnology at North-Eastern Hill University (NEHU), Shillong, organized a highly successful Symposium on International Nanotechnology Day, bringing together over 250 delegates from across India. The symposium highlighted the vast and multidisciplinary scope of nanotechnology and its applications in various fields of science and technology.

In his welcome address, Dr. L. R. Singh, Head of the Department of Nanotechnology, emphasized the crucial role of nanotechnology in modern science and how it connects with diverse disciplines. The event was graced by Prof. S. R. Joshi, Dean of the R&D Cell, NEHU, who served as the chief guest. Prof. Joshi spoke about the importance of educating students and scholars on the benefits of nanotechnology, underscoring the need to shift societal perspectives on the field. He also highlighted its applications in multiple sectors, including physical sciences, biotechnology, biochemistry, medicine, agriculture, and electronics.

Prof. Md. Iftekhar Hussain, Dean of the School of Technology, NEHU, commended the Department of Nanotechnology for organizing the symposium, stating that nanotechnology has become indispensable in every aspect of science and technology. "Everything from laptops to mobile phones to everyday products involves nanotechnology at some level," Prof. Hussain remarked.

The symposium featured lectures by prominent academics and industry experts. Prof. Ghanashyam Bez, Head of the Department of Chemistry, NEHU, delivered an insightful talk on the intersection of chemistry and nanotechnology, exploring its contributions to materials science and energy solutions. Dr. T. Sanjoy Singh from the Department of Chemistry presented a lecture on the emerging field of Nanobiotechnology, focusing on its revolutionary role in drug delivery systems.

Industry insights were shared by Dr. Adarsha T S of Nano Agri Services and R&D Adventz Pvt. Ltd., who elaborated on how the industry is rapidly adopting nanotechnology for advanced applications. Prof. Yogendra K. Mishra from the Mads Clausen Institute, University of Southern Denmark, delivered an international perspective, sharing the latest global research and innovations in nanotechnology from his lab and beyond.

Dr. Davidson Pyngrope of the Department of Nanotechnology, NEHU, presented a talk detailing the cutting-edge R&D facilities available in the department, which are unique in the region. He encouraged students to pursue an M.Tech. in Nanotechnology, highlighting the advantages of this rapidly growing field.
