Under MHRD scheme, Pandit Madan Mohan Malviya Mission on Teachers & Training (PMMMNMTT)

20th & 23rd SEPTEMBER, 2019

Teachers are at the heart of our education system. The success of any effort to improve the quality of education is centrally dependent upon the teacher. Quality issues in education are crucially linked to quality issues in teacher education.

In the field of education there are three main types of accountability system-a) compliance with regulations, b) adherence to professional norms, and c) results driven. The first system demands compliance with statutes and regulations such as those given by regulatory bodies such as NCTE, UGC, NAAC etc. The second system is based upon adherence to professional norms.  Impact of widespread agreement on certain principles and practices so as to elevate teacher education.  . Within this system, teacher educators are accountable for adherence to curriculum transaction, evaluation, standards   to their peers. The third accountability system is based upon results   defined in terms of student learning.

Accordingly in teaching as a profession there are various guidelines, principles, norms of morality, accountability which a teacher has to follow while dealing with students, stakeholders, and community. Therefore a teacher has to be realistic, committed and accountable to the profession and have a  multidimensional approach.
