Prof. (Mrs.) Hooroo is involved in research in the field of Developmental Biology, Aquatic Biology, Ecology and Environmental Biology. The focus of research areas is on the diversity, distribution, breeding biology and development of some amphibians in Northeast India with special reference to the state of Mizoram and Meghalaya. Besides analysing the role of some ecological factors on the breeding, development and metamorphosis of anuran amphibians, the morphological, histological and ultra-structural changes of different tissues of tadpoles during development are also being studied. Further, investigation on the effects of pesticides and fertilizers on the development and morphology of anuran tadpoles is being carried out. In addition, analysis of the cuticular structures of Lepidoptera and changes in the surface features of the egg shell of silk moth during development was carried out.

Awards : Received S.C. Goel Memorial Prize (1993) and J.J.M. Nichol’s Roy award (1977)
Ph.D. Awarded/ supervised: Eight Ph.D and one M.Phil degree awarded and three currently registered for Ph.D.
