About the School of Physical Sciences

The School of Physical Sciences comprises four academic departments, namely the Department of Chemistry, the Department of Physics, the Department of Mathematics, and the Department of Statistics. The school is a primary center for post-graduate teaching and research in frontier areas of physical sciences. The Departments have attracted financial assistance for extramural research from National funding agencies like the Department of Science and Technology, the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research, the Indian Council of Medical Research, the Department of Atomic Energy, etc. Further, some of these departments have received financial support under the DST-FIST and UGC-CAS Program. The school houses sophisticated instruments like single-crystal XRD, HRMS, Time-Resolved Fluorescence spectrophotometer, HPLC, GC, etc., and high-end computational facilities to support cutting-edge research in frontier areas.  The departments have attracted highly qualified faculty members, many of whom have been awarded National and International fellowships for their significant research contributions as well as for undertaking collaborative research projects in the country and abroad. A large number of students under the school qualify for various Eligibility Tests such as NET, GATE, SLET, etc., every year. The graduates and research students of the school are successful in obtaining employment in academic and research institutions in the country and abroad. The students, research scholars and faculty have easy wi-fi access supported high-speed internet connectivity. The School has a Seminar Hall and Conference Room for promoting research and academic activities.
