Refresher course in Tourism, Hospitality & Management organized by Department of Tourism & Hotel Management in collaboration with UGC - HRDC, NEHU, Shillong

A two-week Refresher course in Tourism, Hospitality & Management for College and University Teachers is being organized by the Department of Tourism & Hotel Management, in collaboration with UGC - Human Resource Development Centre, NEHU, Shillong, from December 2, 2021 to December 15, 2021. The refresher course was coordinated by Dr. Saurabh Kumar Dixit and Dr. Sharad Kumar Kulshrestha from the Department of Tourism & Hotel Management.

The inaugural function of the same was held on 2^nd December, which was presided over by Dr. S. K. Dixit, Head, Department of Tourism & Hotel Management, NEHU. Prof. Prabha Shankar Shukla, Vice-Chancellor, NEHU, in his Chief Guest’s speech, talked about the different types of Hospitality and the emerging trends in the Tourism Industry.  He also mentioned the different programmes adopted by the different state governments like Meghalaya, Uttarakhand whereby the Tourist visiting these states can learn about the culture, food habits, traditions of the indigenous people and also hoped that this programme will be beneficial to the participants. Prof. A. P. Pati, Dean, School of Economics, Management & Information Sciences, in his speech, said that this programme will dwell into all the aspects of Tourism and research in this sector should be carried on at a maximum level. He also urged the participants to make the most out of the programme and transmit what they have learnt to their students. Prof. S Rama Rao, Director I/C, UGC- HRDC, NEHU, in his speech said that he was thankful to the Department of Tourism for coming forward with the proposal and that UGC - HRDC NEHU will put in all efforts to cater to the needs of the various departments in the University and in providing training to the teachers. The Refresher Course is being attended by 25 numbers of participants as many as 15 states of the country. The valedictory function of the refresher course was held on December 15, 2021, where Prof. Ganga Prasad Prasain, Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor, Tripura University, Tripura, graced the function as the chief guest.

It was a truly national multidisciplinary course as it had participants from Madhya Pradesh, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh, Andhra Pradesh, Odisha, Tamil Nadu, Assam, Nagaland, Sikkim, and Meghalaya. Besides the geographical representations, this course was also attended by the different disciplinary faculty members such as Tourism, hospitality, Sociology, History, Marketing, Business Studies, HRM, Commerce, Education, Geography, Marketing, etc. During the refresher course, the participants have attended about 43 sessions on the diverse facets of tourism, hospitality, and management research.
