Consul General of France, Mr. Didier Talpain along with his team comprising of Dr Fabien Chareix, Attaché for Scientific and Academic Cooperation, French Institute in India, Embassy of France in India and Miss Noémie Gicquelet, Attachée for cooperation in French language visited North-Eastern Hill University, Shillong on 24th of March 2022 to discuss possible collaborations with the French Universities and Institutes of higher learning.
At the outset, Dr. Davidson Pyngrope, the Public Relations Officer, NEHU gave the introductory address followed by a ceremonial welcome of the dignitaries of the Consul General of France by Prof. Prabha Shankar Shukla, the Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor, Dr. J. N. Nayak, Registrar, and Prof. A. S. Dixit, Chairman, MoU Committee of North-Eastern Hill University which was being conducted at the VC’s Conference Hall. A welcome address was presented by Prof. S. R. Joshi, Co-ordinator, NIRF, NEHU, Shillong.
The Registrar presented a brief background with regard to the establishment of the North-Eastern Hill University (NEHU). In his presentation, he mentioned that NEHU has been one of the premier Educational Institutions in the North-Eastern Region of the country for decades and summed up his presentation by mentioning that NEHU at present works in different fields of study and is a multidisciplinary University. He also mentioned that NEHU is interested to have a mutual Memorandum of Understandings (MoUs) with the different Educational Institutions of France through the Consulate General of France for the benefit of our students and researchers with regard to academic and cultural collaborations.
Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Prabha Shankar Shukla in his speech before the Consulate General of France had categorically mentioned that NEHU has the potential of an excellent teaching faculty members under eight Schools viz School of Technology, School of Humanities, School of Education, School of Human and Environmental Sciences, School of Social Sciences, School of Economics, Management and Information Sciences, School of Physical Sciences and School of Life Sciences. He also brought to the knowledge the French consulate about Prof. Badaplin War, Department of Khasi being honoured with the ‘Padma Shri Award’ for her contribution in the field of literature and education. He added that with the Indo-French Academic Collaboration by entering into a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), the students of NEHU and French Institutions will be benefitted.
Mr. Didier Talpain, Consul General of France and Dr. Fabien Charix, Attache for Scientific and Academic Cooperation, French Institute in India, Embassy of France in India had also expressed their interest to have an Academic collaboration with the North-Eastern Hill University and extend various academic and research activities including the opportunities of scholarships to the deserving students of North-Eastern Hill University.
Afterwards an open house discussion started in which Deans of different schools and chairpersons of various centres of NEHU presented their point of view on how to start the collaborations which would result in a fruitful outcome.
Simultaneously, a lecture on the opportunities of scholarships from French Government was being conducted at the Multi-Use Convention Hall, NEHU where more than fifty students attended the programme.
At the end, the meeting ended with a vote of thanks present by the Public Relations Officer, NEHU.
