NEHU, Tura Campus Celebrated 75 Years of Independence

The North-Eastern Hill University, Tura Campus, celebrated 75 years of Indian independence with immense enthusiasm and patriotic sentiments. Prof. Sujata Gurudev, the Campus-in-Charge, NEHU, Tura Campus led a march passing through academic block to administrative building. The celebration started with unfurling of the National flag by the Campus-in-Charge, NEHU, Tura Campus followed by singing of the National Anthem. The celebration was attended by a large number of students who came to the venue of flag hoisting marching from their respective hostels and shouting slogans of 'Bharat Mata ki Jai' and 'Vande Mataram'. The celebration was also attended by teaching and non- teaching staff of the campus along with their family members. Dr. Tilok Thakuria in his speech highlighted the contribution of northeast India to the freedom struggle. He mainly highlighted the early resistances by the plain and hills of North-East Indian against the expansion policy of British. Dr. Crystal C. D. Marak, Assistant Professor, Department of Garo and Teacher-in-Charge, Students Welfare, NEHU, Tura Campus spoke about the three Garo leaders among others, namely Pa. Togan Nengminza Sangma, Pa. Sonaram R. Sangma and Pa. Phukan Nengminza Sangma, who fought against the British rule in India. Mr. Nikrang R Marak, 4th Semester Student of Department of Education and Socio-cultural secretary, PGSU, NEHU, Tura Campus spoke about the contribution of Late. Pa Phukan Nengminza Sangma, the Garo freedom fighter. He was the person who had the honour of hoisting the national flag for the very the first time in Tura. Mr. George M. A, Assistant Registrar (i/c) expressed his joy on the huge participation of students and staff in the celebration. He appealed that everyone should work collectively for the all round development of the society. Dr. A. K. Mondal, Professional Assistant, Library, NEHU, Tura Campus mentioned the contribution of the freedom fighters of India. Prof. S. C. Subudhi spoke in length about the contribution of the freedom fighters from the North-East India. He also urged everyone to come forward and join hands in building our institution and to take it to new heights. On this occasion an appreciation programme was also organized where the Campus-in-Charge, NEHU, Tura Campus felicitated the wards of NEHU staff who cleared the class 10 or 12 examinations. She also felicitated Shri Handam R Marak of Aminda  Rangsagre, West Garo Hills and Mrs. Vivien A Sangma, M/s V A Silk Industry, New Tura for their untiring efforts and creative engagements which led to the entrepreneurial growth in the society. In her speech, Prof. Sujata Gurudev, the Campus-in-Charge, NEHU, Tura Campus, while highlighting the sacrifices of our freedom fighters, appealed everyone to recognize the significance of freedom and the responsibility which comes with freedom. She called everyone to work with human touch and dedication. On this occasion a tree plantation drive was also organized by PGSU, NEHU, Tura Campus. Dr. Deepak Bhagat, Associate Professor, Department of Management, NEHU, Tura Campus and Programme Officer, (NSS) P. G. Unit, NEHU, Tura campus proposed the vote of thanks.
