The School of Technology (SoT), North-Eastern Hill University (NEHU), Shillong, successfully concluded its two-week-long Student Induction Programme (SIP) 2025 on 10th September 2025. The programme, mandated by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), New Delhi, and aligned with the vision of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, was organized to welcome newly admitted students of B.Tech, B.Arch, and M.Tech across SoT departments, including Electronics & Communication Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Energy Engineering, Information Technology, Architecture, and Nanotechnology.

Now in its third edition, the SIP aimed to familiarize students with the university environment, instil confidence, and provide essential exposure to both academic and social life at NEHU. Over the two weeks, students engaged in 78 contact hours of activities spanning academics, wellness, creativity, and personal development.

The valedictory function was graced by Prof. Md. Iftekhar Hussain , Dean, SoT, NEHU, as the Chief Guest, and Prof. S.K. Dixit, Registrar In-charge, NEHU, as the Guest of Honour. The ceremony began with a welcome address by Dr. Shruti Shukla, University Coordinator of the UHV Cell, who highlighted how the SIP has helped students transition smoothly into university life.

In his address, Prof. Md. Iftekhar Hussain emphasized that hard work always pays off, making challenging goals easier to achieve. He spoke about the importance of harmonious relationships among peers, seniors, and faculty members, which provide valuable support in academics. He also encouraged students to see diversity as an opportunity to adapt to multicultural environments—an experience that would prepare them well for future professional settings. Stressing the role of strong value systems, he urged students to remain balanced and focused, avoiding distractions in their academic journey.

Prof. Saurabh Kumar Dixit, in his remarks, highlighted how the induction programme equips students with essential knowledge about campus facilities, rules and regulations, healthcare services, and other resources. He noted that the two-week-long sessions enriched students both academically and personally, making their transition into NEHU easier and more effective.

The SIP 2025 covered nine AICTE-prescribed modules, including Universal Human Values (UHV-I), Physical Health and Activities, Department Familiarization, Innovation, Proficiency Modules, Literature, Creative Practices, and Extra-curricular Activities. Highlights of the programme included sessions on Yoga & Meditation, Foreign Language Proficiency, Creative Skills Development, Mental Health, Career Counselling and a Cultural Visit to the local areas. These activities ensured the holistic development of students, strengthening their physical, mental, emotional, and academic well-being.

During the closing ceremony, a few students shared positive feedback, describing the SIP as a valuable “hand-holding” process that enriched their early days at NEHU. A short documentary on the two-week programme was screened, followed by a detailed report presented by Dr. Samrat Paul, Co-coordinator of UHV-SIP.

The event concluded with a Vote of Thanks by Dr. Samrat Paul, who expressed gratitude to the NEHU administration, faculty members, Heads of Departments, the Finance Department, resource persons, and above all, the newly inducted students for making the programme a success.

The SIP 2025 at NEHU not only welcomed students into the university system but also laid a strong foundation for their journey of academic excellence, personal growth, and holistic development.
