Morning Walk for Good Health and Wellbeing Organised under Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan

North-Eastern Hill University (NEHU) organised a Morning Walk for Good Health and Wellbeing on 22nd November 2025 as part of the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan of the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Government of India. The programme encouraged students and staA to adopt healthy lifestyle practices and reinforced the university’s commitment to a drug-free campus.

The event began with the assembling of participants at the Administrative Building at 6:50 a.m. Registrar Prof. Saurabh Kumar Dixit, Proctor and Nodal OAicer of the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan Prof. Marco Mitri, and Co-Nodal OAicer Dr. Chandrakanta led the programme, accompanied by faculty members, hostel wardens, NEHUSU representatives and a large number of students. The walk aimed to create awareness on physical wellbeing while strengthening the ongoing campaign against drug abuse within the university.

The invited guest for the programme was Mr. Welkin Stone Shadap, NEHU alumnus (Botany, 2023 2025) and currently a Guest Faculty at Union Christian College. Mr. Shadap, widely recognised for walking 101.54 km in a single day in 2023 to enter the Asia Book of Records, also completed an Itanagar-to-Shillong walk in 2024 to raise awareness against drug abuse. As a volunteer with DKMS, he continues to contribute to social causes, especially those related to health and youth empowerment. In his address, he encouraged participants to maintain discipline, stay physically active and support collective eAorts to promote a drug-free society.

The walk saw active participation from NCC cadets, NSS volunteers and members of the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan team,and many others ensured smooth coordination of the programme. The event concluded with a message emphasising the importance of healthy habits and community involvement in combating substance abuse.
