DDUCC organized Eight-Day Skill-Based Training Programme on "Bakery"

The Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Community and Skill Development Centre (DDUCC), Wahiajer, a constituent college of North-Eastern Hill University (NEHU), Shillong, successfully conducted an eight-day skill-based training programme on “Bakery” from 27th November to 5th December 2025 at the DDUCC Community Hall, Wahiajer.

The programme aimed at empowering the youth and women of the community by equipping them with essential bakery skills to support economic independence and sustainable livelihood opportunities. The training covered a wide range of bakery items, including Cookies & Biscuits, Tarts & Choux Pastry, Muffins & Cupcakes, Pâte de Fruits, Marshmallows & Candied Nuts, and Cake Glazing & Frosting Techniques.

A total of 62 participants from diverse backgrounds took part in the hands-on sessions led by resource person Smt. Lamika Passah, whose practical demonstrations and interactive teaching enabled participants to gain valuable knowledge in bakery production as well as basic entrepreneurial skills.

The programme culminated on 5th December 2025 with a valedictory function held at the DDUCC campus. Shri Wailadmiki Shylla, Hon’ble Cabinet Minister, Health & Family Welfare, Sports & Youth Affairs, Home (Passport) Departments, Govt. of Meghalaya, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest.

Other dignitaries present included Prof. S.K. Dixit, Registrar (I/c), NEHU; Prof. S.M. Sungoh (Retd.); Prof. D.K. Biswal; Dr. F.R. Sumer, Principal (I/c), DDUCC; Shri Hunbait Chyrmang, Executive Engineer, MePDCL; Dr. Heimonmi Niang, BDO, Thadlaskein Block; Shri Latu Nartiang, Branch Manager, MACB, Ummulong; and Shri Sanwotki Laloo, Headman of Wahiajer.

In his keynote address, the Chief Guest encouraged the participants to continue refining their bakery skills and emphasized the importance of time management, dedication, and innovation, especially as the bakery sector becomes increasingly competitive with evolving consumer preferences. He motivated the trainees to identify and develop their Unique Selling Proposition (USP) and urged them to explore opportunities under the Meghalaya Skill Development Programme and government schemes such as PMEGP. He also shared insights from entrepreneurial initiatives he supported in Jaintia Hills and assured full cooperation for future DDUCC activities.

Speakers at the event praised DDUCC's efforts in promoting skill development in alignment with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, highlighting the importance of vocational training for community upliftment. Certificates of Participation were distributed to all trainees during the ceremony.

In his concluding remarks, Mr. Wolnish Rymbai, Programme Coordinator and Chair of the valedictory function, expressed gratitude to the dignitaries, the resource person, and all participants for contributing to the success of the programme. He reaffirmed DDUCC’s commitment to conducting more such impactful skill-development initiatives in the future.
