North-Eastern Hill University, Department of Library and Information Science Hosts Ruby Jubilee International Conference

The Department of Library and Information Science, North-Eastern Hill University (NEHU), Shillong, today inaugurated a two-day Ruby Jubilee International Conference titled “The Multifaceted Role of Information, Knowledge Systems, Technologies, and Libraries in Various Socio-Cultural and Academic Environments.”

The inaugural session was graced by Dr. M. Ampareen Lyngdoh, Member of Meghalaya Legislative Assembly as the Chief Guest, who delivered an insightful address highlighting the critical role of information and knowledge systems in fostering inclusive development and empowering communities. Prof. S. Umdor, Pro-Vice Chancellor of NEHU, also addressed the gathering, emphasizing the university’s commitment to academic excellence and innovation in the field of Library and Information Science.

Other distinguished speakers included Prof. Moses M. Naga, Dean, School of Economics, Management and Information Sciences (SEMIS); Prof. P. Hangsing, Head, Department of Library and Information Science, NEHU; and Prof. Sanjay Kumar Singh, Head, Department of Library and Information Science, Gauhati University. Each speaker underscored the evolving significance of libraries and information centers in addressing contemporary academic and socio-cultural challenges.

The conference brings together academicians, researchers, and professionals from across the country and abroad to deliberate on emerging trends, technological advancements, and the transformative role of libraries and knowledge systems in diverse environments.

The event features keynote lectures, technical sessions, panel discussions, and research paper presentations focusing on areas such as digital libraries, knowledge organization, information accessibility, and the integration of modern technologies in library services.

The conference is being coordinated by Dr. J. J. Thabah, with Dr. J. Khongtim serving as Co-Coordinator.

The Ruby Jubilee Conference marks a significant milestone for the Department, reflecting its sustained contributions to education, research, and professional development in Library and Information Science.
