The Dean of Students' Welfare office, NEHU, organized a general counseling program on the 18th August 2026 at the Multi-Use Convention Hall, NEHU, Shillong. This program was attended by Class Representatives (from all semesters and departments), Prefects, Mess Secretaries of all hostels, and Students Counseling Committee members of NEHU. During this interactive program, the invited Psychologist, Smt. Riyaka Verma Surong (Founder and Chairperson of UMatter), highlighted key points on gender equality, existing gender roles, prevailing stereotypes, and how to be a gender-sensitive individual. Furthermore, Students' awareness of how mental health shapes how we think, feel, and act every single day was discussed. She pinpointed that mental and emotional well-being directly correlates with how we handle stress, relate to others, and make choices. Suggestions and techniques for practical ways to handle academic burden and related daily stress were also discussed. The Psychologist and her team also conducted a range of mental health-related activities for attendees before the program ended.
