Hands-on Workshop on "Patent Drafting & Filing: Building a Career in Intellectual Property and Patent Practice"

The IPR Cell of North-Eastern Hill University (NEHU), Shillong, in collaboration with the DPIIT IPR Chair at IIT Guwahati, successfully hosted a comprehensive "Hands-on Workshop on Patent Drafting & Filing: Building a Career in Intellectual Property and Patent Practice" on 9^th October, 2026.

The workshop kicked off with an inaugural session, followed by expert-led technical sessions covering fundamental IP concepts and career paths. The event commenced at 09:30 AM with a ceremonial lamp lighting and felicitation of dignitaries following the arrival of the Chief Guest and Guest of Honour. Dr. Rajesh Kumar Sharma, Coordinator of the IPR Cell at NEHU, delivered the welcome address. This was followed by insightful addresses from Prof. S. R. Joshi, as the Guest of Honour, Dr. Pankaj Kumar, DPIIT IPR Chair Professor, IIT Guwahati as the special guest and Prof. S. K. Barik, Vice-Chancellor of NEHU, who graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. The inaugural program concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Dr. Satya Prakash Pati, followed by the National Anthem.

Dr. Pankaj Kumar, DPIIT IPR Chair Professor from IIT Guwahati, delivered technical session-I on understanding IPR and career opportunities. Participants also gained valuable industry perspectives from IP Attorney Manas Barman (Associate at IP Constellation) during the technical session-II on intellectual property fundamentals, and learned about practical insights on Indian patenting procedures from Dr. Suman Majee, Research Officer at DPIIT IPR Chair, IIT Guwahati during the technical session-III. Additionally, Mrs. Akanksha B. Amarnani shared her inspiring personal career transition from an M.Sc. background into the field of intellectual property. Dr. Pankaj Kumar led an intensive computer laboratory session, guiding participants through live patent searching, drafting, and filing techniques.

The event concluded with closing remarks delivered by Dr. S. Majaw, followed by an interactive feedback session where participants expressed appreciation for the hands-on learning experience and career guidance provided.
