The Department of Physics, North-Eastern Hill University (NEHU), Shillong, organised an expert talk on “Advanced Optical Nanostructures: Industrial Applications to Quantum Emitters Interface” on 22 October 2026. The invited lecture was delivered by Prof. Rajan Jha from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bhubaneswar.
The expert talk was organised to provide students, research scholars, and faculty members with insights into recent advances in optical nanostructures, nanophotonics, and their applications in industrial technologies and quantum emitter systems. The programme highlighted the importance of advanced optical materials and nanostructured systems in bridging fundamental physics with emerging technological applications.
Prof. Jha discussed the significance of advanced optical nanostructures in manipulating light at the nanoscale and controlling light–matter interactions. Such structures offer opportunities to tailor optical properties and improve the performance of photonic devices for a wide range of applications.
A key theme of the lecture was the interface between optical nanostructures and quantum emitters. The interaction of quantum emitters with engineered nanostructures can enable enhanced emission, improved control over optical responses, and the development of compact and efficient quantum photonic devices. These advancements are relevant to quantum communication, quantum information processing, optical sensing, and emerging quantum technologies.
The talk also highlighted the industrial relevance of optical nanostructures in advanced photonic devices, optical sensors, light management, and materials engineering. The discussion emphasised the growing role of nanophotonics in developing innovative solutions for modern technological challenges.
