NEHU Incubation Centre inaugurated

The Union Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment, Shri Ramdas Athawale inaugurated the ‘Incubation Centre’ at NEHU in the presence of Minister of Art and Culture, Government of Meghalaya Shri A.L. Hek and Vice-Chancellor, NEHU, Prof S.K Srivastava.

Acknowledging the beautiful landscape and pristine climate of Meghalaya, the Union Minister said such natural gifts should be supplemented with development of industries, universities and skill development centre so that the youths of the region can excel at par with the rest of the country.

Such ‘Incubation Centre’ will benefit people in developing their entrepreneurial skills and help generate and provide employment opportunities for a lot of individuals, he added.

Shri. A.L. Hek  stressed on demand driven projects which are applicable to the State and should be incorporated by the Centre.

Earlier, Prof. S.K. Srivastava in his welcome speech highlighted the achievements of NEHU including achieving ‘A’ Grade (CGPA 3.22) (2017) in the third cycle by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) and NIRF ranking (2018) of 39 among Universities.

The programme ended with a vote of thanks by the Registrar, Dr. J. N. Nayak.

NEHU is extending incubating platform in certain key sectors like Building Materials/ Construction Technology; New and Renewable Energy and Environmental Sustainability; Water, Sanitation and Solid Waste Management and Other Emerging areas of National Importance and to facilitate:- a) Product Development as a start- up b) Incubation / Entrepreneurial Support c) Training to Incubatees and Manpower.

The objective of the Incubation Centre is drawn from the vision of Prime Minister’s “Self-efficiency in country’s products under Make in India” to provide an ecosystem for start-ups, to offer guidance, mentoring, physical space and network for funding and value based collaboration for incubation of novel ideas. With these intentions NEHU aims to promote entrepreneurship in North Eastern States and wishes to expand its presence through start-ups.

Further the Centre will offer active incubation support to the new proposed ventures to become independent and self-supporting over the period. The centre will help provide technical knowhow to these ventures to become efficient, competent models so that they become eligible for formal funding support from donors, philanthropists, network partners and investors.

The following fields where incubatees will be nurtured in the first phase are:

  1. Agriculture: to Develop products and processes which ensure improved productivity, enhanced market-access, better quality of produce;
  2. Healthcare: Ensure healthy lives and promote well-being for all at all ages through improved technologies;
  3. Livelihood: to promote sustained inclusive and sustainable incubation of ideas/products that will guarantee economic growth for all through full and productive employment and decent work;
  4.  Waste Management: to equip human settlements with safe and easy management and processing of waste and
  5.  Enabling Differently-abled: by developing robust tools and technologies which foster empowerment, integration and inclusion of differently-abled in our society.

Incubation Centre, NEHU is open for all young and budding entrepreneurs.
