About the Department

The Department of Education, NEHU Shillong, is one of the oldest departments of the University which was established in the year 1976. The department offers two years M.A (Education) and two years M.Ed Programmes both spreading over four semesters. The department also offers Ph.D Programme in Education. The thrust areas of research are (i) System of Education in the North East (ii) Educational Psychology (iii) Test Construction (iv) Mental Health (v) Teacher Education and (vi) Higher Education. Currently, more than 35 students are pursuing their Ph.D in the department. A good number of students clear NET/JRF every year.

The Department of Education being the Monitoring Institution for Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) and Rashtriya Madhyamik Shiksha Abhiyan (RMSA) under MHRD is engaged in monitoring SSA Project for the whole State of Meghalaya. The department also conduct National/International Seminars every year on some current themes of education.
