The Department of Philosophy established in 1974 is a Teaching and Research Department. It conducts two-years M. A and Ph.D programmes in Philosophy. Its thrust area is philosophy of Culture, in particular, the tribal cultures of the North-east region. Besides research in Western and Indian philosophy, it has done significant and pioneering work in it thrust area.
The Department of Philosophy offers M. A and Ph.D Courses.
