    About the Department

    About the department -

    The Department of Tourism and Hotel Management, NEHU, Shillong started in the year 2012 under School of Economics, Management and Information Sciences (SEMIS). Its focus is on imparting tourism and hospitality education and training in tune with the growing significance of the sector in the northeast region and India as a whole. Tourism and hospitality management has been undergoing a significant shift in recent years and the department aims to equip the students and researchers with the necessary knowledge, skill-set and competencies to become productive partners and contributors in the dynamic sector. This includes human resource development that can engage in employment in various avenues of the sector and/or have the right aptitude and attitude for engaging in their own enterprises.

    The department has four regular faculties and supported by guest faculties. It is equipped with class rooms, smart class room and computer lab, library resources within a pleasant and dynamic campus of the university. Apart from the regular teaching-learning, the students and research scholars can engage in the various programmes and events which tend to happen year-round in the university campus.

    Programmes offered by the department –

    The department provides teaching-learning and research at the post-graduate and doctoral level in the area of tourism and hotel management. On this backdrop, the programmes offered are –

    1. Master of Business Administration (Tourism and Travel Management) [MBA (TTM)]
    2. Doctor of Philosophy in Tourism and Hotel Management (Ph.D.-THM)

    The programmes are offered with emphasis being laid upon sustainable growth and development with the broader goal of preparing students to emerge as responsible human resources and trained personnel for the contemporary tourism and hotel sector and simultaneously to inculcate entrepreneurial spirit in order to enable them to seize the business opportunities available.
