About the Department

History

The Department of Computer Application established in the year of 2012, under the School of Technology, NEHU, funded by MHRD, Govt. of India, with a prime focus to impart quality, career/research-oriented course in computer application to produce best possible manpower in the field.

Profile

The Department is offering Master of Computer Application (M.C.A.) programme and Ph.D. since 2013, and 2016 respectively. The core part of the curriculum embodies theoretical and practical knowledge basic to the industry/academic/research. In addition to the core courses the programme also incorporates current and emerging technologies relevant to the field of computer application. To tackle theoretical and real life problems, the syllabus/ coursework has been designed by balancing various core, specialized and elective courses. The syllabus also includes several practical papers and challenging projects etc. The M.C.A. curriculum is also enriched with management papers to give an exposure to student in the field of corporate management.

Infrastructure Facilities

Currently the Department has well-equipped state-of-art computer laboratories consisting of 80 modern desktop computers, three servers, seven work stations and one GPU machine with latest configuration. The latest licensed software as per the requirement of the syllabus are also available in the department. Department also has 3 microprocessor trainer kit at present.
All the class rooms are equipped with digital teaching aids like LCD projectors. Enriched collection of books on the subject is available in the Central Library of the campus.

• Two days National level Webinar on “Cyber Crime, Security and Awareness” Date 8^th-9^th March, 2022, Department of Computer Application, NEHU, Tura Campus.
• One Week National Level Webinar on “Basics of Computer Applications and Role of ICT”. Date 8^th -12^th February, 2021, Department of Computer Application, NEHU, Tura Campus.
• Two days National Level Webinar on “Recent Trends in Science and Technology”. Date 26-27^th February, 2021, Department of Computer Application, NEHU, Tura Campus.
• Organized study tour of the MCA final year students to NEHU, Shillong during 16-19, September, 2019 to interact with the representatives of the UK Universities.
• Organized an industrial study tour to visit Darjeeling and Sikkim for the students of MCA final year under the guidance during 27th Dec 2018 to 1st Jan 2019.
•  Organized National Workshop on Android Application Development  in collaboration with Aspirevision Tech Ltd. during 11-15, March, 2019.
• Organized an industrial study tour to visit Delhi, Agra, and Mussoorie for the students of MCA final year during 12th January, 2018 to 22nd January, 2018.
• Organized Outreach Programme for North-East Students in collaboration with Indian Statistical Institute on 13th November, 2017.
• Organized  NNSC-2016, National Workshop on Networking, In association with E-Cell IIT Kanpur, Organized by Department of Computer Applications, NEHU, Tura Campus, Tura, Meghalaya during 26-27th  May, 2016.
• Organized an industrial study tour visit to Delhi, Noida and Chandigarh for the students of MCA final year during 23rd of January 2017 to 4th of February 2017.
• Organized North-Eastern Workshop on LaTeX: A Document Preparation System during 09-11 September, 2014.

Future Agenda

• Planning to float M.Tech programme.
