Vision

The Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering aspires to be a leading center of excellence in engineering education and research. It aims to produce globally competent engineers and technologists capable of driving innovation and solving complex problems while contributing to societal progress, particularly focusing on the development of the Northeastern region of India.

Mission

The department is committed to providing a robust educational foundation in Electronics and Communication Engineering by:

Major achievements since the inception of the department of Electronics and Communication Engineering (as on May, 2025)

Academic: Since its inception, the Department of ECE has produced 702 graduate Engineers, 99 M.Tech. Engineers and 16 Ph.D. scholars were awarded degrees with the support of 11 dedicated and regular teachers, 7-8 technical staff, and two office persons on contract. Innovative courses on PCB Design, and Silicon Photonic Chip Design for M.Tech. have been started. Three times Syllabi of B.Tech. (ECE), M. Tech (ECE) and Ph.D (ECE) have been revised and upgraded to keep pace with advancements in knowledge and technology.
Research: 7 major research projects (4 completed and 3 continued) in the area of Speech Signal processing, Silicon Photonics, Chip-to-Start-up, Fintech, and AI/ML to the tune of about 2.15 crores and under the Visvesvaraya Ph.D. Scheme 2.74 crores have been sanctioned for carrying forward research in the area of Electronics and IT. Faculty member possesses the patent in control area. MOU with Amtron has been signed specially for 5G training. Teachers and scholars of department have published impactful research articles in IEEE, Springer-Nature, Elsevier, Taylor and Francis and many other internationally known publishers.
Extension Activities: Three International Conferences in the area of Computing and Systems two FDP in the area of Sensor Technologies and Artificial Intelligence, two workshops on MEMS and Embedded Systems and its Applications and many extension activities i.e. invited talks, Ideation Hackathon, IDL-2024, Group-Discussion at school level activity etc. have been conducted. Recently, one Refresher Course on AI in Electronics and Communication has been concluded.

Strength, Weakness, Opportunity and Challenges analysis of the department of Electronics and Communication Engineering

Strength: The department of ECE has presently 11 experienced faculty members who have done impactful theoretical research in the fields of Signal Processing, Optical and Wireless Communication systems, Control and devices, AM/ML etc. An adequate number of UG and PG Laboratories, advanced 5-G training labs and PCB Design laboratories are strengths of the department. Two classrooms equipped with smart boards.
Weakness: Nil-sanctioned technical posts to execute about 20 laboratories and office staff posts. Poor ratio of student and teacher. Due to the NEP-2020 programme implementation, less number of classrooms and tutorial rooms. Dedicated Research Scholars' workstations are not the weakest aspect in the department. Barrier-free environment is not available in the Department.
Opportunities: IC Development through the C2S programme, and upcoming semiconductor foundries shall be a great opportunity for UG, PG, and Ph.D students. Collaboration with IITs, NITs and other institutions. Floating Swayam/MOOC courses to address the shortage of faculties.
Challenges: The nature of academic and research programmes offered by the department is competitive in nature globally including IITs and NITs. The placement of graduate engineers in geographically difficult areas is challenging.
