About the Department

History

The North-Eastern Hill University is a premier academic institution and the oldest central university in the North-Eastern region. The university has highly qualified faculty members recognized nationally and internationally through their quality of research and prestigious awards. Having acquired academic excellence over 34 years of its existence in more than 20 conventional disciplines in the area of science, social science, humanity and languages during the last 34 years, the university started MBA programme as one of the professional courses under the School of Economics, Management and Information Science (SEMIS) at Tura Campus since 2006.

Profile

The Department of Management was established with an objective to provide the students with an appropriate combination of conceptual framework and practical insight into managerial challenges and business opportunities for grooming entrepreneurial initiatives. Its unique feature of Financial Autonomy has been facilitating to make synergy with Doyens of Management and professionals across the Premier Institutions to bring an integrated approach from International, National and Regional perspectives. The MBA programme is a full time course with an exhaustive course curriculum, regular industrial visits, winter internship, regular interaction with industry experts and visits to rural enterprises for exposure to Indigenous knowledge and systems. Our unique learning methodology includes learning case studies, group discussions, debates, seminars, business games, role plays, self managing team, and venture creation projects. Its academic session for third batch (2008- 09) of the students will commence from 1st August, 2008.

Department has its own library with 750 titles (several of them multiple copies), 26 journals and magazines and requisite staff. Besides, it has its own V-SAT Internet connection for students and faculty for updating their knowledge at par with their contemporaries across the globe. Computer Lab has 20 PCs installed. Faculty members are provided with Laptops.

Placements

A placement committee consisting of students with teacher co-coordinator is constituted to look after winter project placement and final placement for the students. Printing and publishing of placements Boucher, leaflets and inviting senior managers from public and private sector undertakings for strengthening Industry- Institute Interface are in progress.

Structure of the MBA programme

There will be a total of four semesters in the programme. The first and third semesters are from August to December and the second and fourth semesters are from February to July.  There will be a total of 32 papers in four semesters with each paper evaluated for maximum of 100 marks. Total marks will be 3200 over 4 semesters/2 years. The programme shall consist of 20 compulsory papers, 10 elective papers and a project work equivalent to 2 papers. Specialization courses are offered in four functional areas of management:

  • Marketing Management
  • Human Resource Management
  • Agri-Business Management
  • Financial Management
