Teaching and Research experience: 15+ years

Ph.D. thesis title: Dietary and hormonal modulation of acetylcholinesterase in mice as a function of age

Research Specialization: Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Endocrinology

Research interest:

Our research aims to shed light on the changes in cellular and molecular pathways underpinning the aging process. We strive to use this knowledge to translate and develop novel therapeutic strategies to treat/ameliorate age-associated diseases. By posing fundamental questions about differences in rates and risks for pathological conditions associated with aging, we employ Caenorhabditis elegans model organism, cell-based assays, and rodents for various in vitro and in vivo experimentations.

Current research topics:

  1. Understanding the role of Klotho protein in chronic kidney disease (CKD) and its synergistic modulation by endocrine and natural principle components
  2. Study of alpha 7 nicotinic acetylcholine receptor as a function of age in different model systems: its modulation in acute and chronic kidney disease
  3. Study of AMPK in association with autophagy and oxidative stress in different model systems: its implications in aging and chronic kidney disease
