The Department is one of the oldest Departments under School of Technology, NEHU, Shillong, established in 2006. The Department has expertise in the areas of Digital Signal Processing(Image & Speech), Analog & Digital Communication, Optical Communication & opto-electronics devices, Embedded System & Robotics, Nano-electronics and Nano-sciences, VLSI, Microwave Engineering and Control Systems.
The Department has been playing a vital role in producing engineers and technologists of the highest caliber particularly from North-Eastern region of the country. The Department runs four years (eight semesters) B.Tech course in Electronics and Communication Engineering since its inception.The Diploma holders (ECE) and /BSc(Electronics/Physics) also get opportunity for B.Tech degree in Electronics and Communication Engineering through direct admission in 2nd year/3rd Semester by Lateral Entry procedure. The Department also offers M.Tech in Electronics and Communication Engineering and Ph.D. (Engg) in various specialized fields from August, 2013 onwards.
The Department is gaining rapid momentum in terms of students’ achievements such as job placements, qualifying GATE/NET exams, getting admission to higher education in Institutes of national importance in India and abroad. The Department is also well aware about the duties towards the society by conducting various programs such as Techno-Cultural program i.e. Anakalyapsi-2011, NSS, Sports, Cultural activities etc.
To be acknowledged by the society at large, as an excellent Department, offering quality higher education in the area of Electronics and Communication Engineering with a research focus catering to the needs of the region and being in line with the advanced technology.
