The UGC-Human Resource Development Centre, North-Eastern Hill University, Shillong, organizes the 7th Faculty Induction Programme

The UGC-Human Resource Development Centre, North-Eastern Hill University, Shillong, organizes the 7th Faculty Induction Programme w.e.f. 17th January-15th February, 2022. The Director in-charge and course coordinator, Dr Quendarisa Kharbuli, informed that the target group for this programme is the new Entrant College and University teachers of the country. The one month course with 150 contact hours is designed to equip them in their professional development such as teaching technique, research, ICT and administrative skills among others and their personality development as well. Thirty-one teachers, with a pan India representation joined the programme on online mode through ZOOM. Prof S R Joshi, Head Department of Biotechnology and Bioinformatics graced the Inauguration Function as Chief Guest. In his Inaugural address to the participants, he stressed on the importance of such training programmes in shaping the young teachers of the country, which in turn strengthen the quality of Higher Education in terms of NIRF ranking etc. It may be also mentioned that in the 2 years of the pandemic, the Centre has completed 38 programmes (Faculty Induction Programmes, Refresher Courses (subject and multidiscipline), Short Term Courses, Workshops and Webinars) without any disruption and trained around 1500 participants which include teachers, research scholars and academic administrators.

Before the start of the Inauguration Function, the Director I/c, conveyed the sudden demise of the founder Director of the centre (L) Prof B B P Gupta. In her condolence speech she mentioned about the rich contributions of (L) Prof Gupta to the Centre, who was also the member of the Academic Advisory Committee. He has been instrumental in setting up the infrastructure of the Centre to high standards and continually providing guidance to the progress of the Centre. His demise is an irreplaceable loss to the Faculty and Staff of HRDC, NEHU. Prof S R Rao, Director who is on leave expressed his grief on losing a member with great leadership qualities. As a mark of respect to the departed soul, a 2 minute silence was observed by the Faculty, staff and participants at the Lecture Room 1 of the Human Resource Development Centre.
