Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav Industry-Academia Interface Workshop on "Investing In Future Leaders- Be the Change"

To spread awareness on the development sector, the Buddha fellowship and to induce the students to explore them, the Department of Management, North- Eastern Hill University, Tura Campus, the Buddha Institute, New Delhi and Post- Graduate Students Union, NEHU, Tura Campus jointly organized Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav Industry-Academia Interface Workshop on “Investing In Future Leaders- Be the Change” on 20^th June 2022 in Conference Hall, Academic Block II, NEHU, Tura Campus.

Dr. Deepak Bhagat, Associate Professor, Department of Management, NEHU, Tura Campus and the coordinator of the workshop in his welcome address briefly introduced the purpose of workshop. He expressed his desire of immersing the students in rural world & exploring it as a career in addition to other careers, thus contributing to the upliftment of the poor people. Prof. K. C. Biswal, Head, Department of Management, NEHU, Tura Campus discussed regarding efficient leader qualities, & self- initiative for understanding the social problems. Ms. Shipra Singh, Theme Lead, The Buddha Institute, New Delhi explained the purpose of the workshop. She described on the following points:

• Increasing Social awareness among the educated professionals, so that they can opt the social sector as their career. It is funded by Ford Foundation, where TBI will visit multiple education institutions & spread awareness of rural world. Through this programme, TBI will be able to conduct meetings, mentorship sessions, rural immersion programmes, seminars, exposure & career counselling sessions.
• Development Entrepreneurship & Buddha Fellowship (BFP)

Community representative Ms. Ratna Rabha & Ms. Hema Rabha introduced themselves & their purpose for coming in the Tura Campus. They elaborated on the success story of their area by intervention of Civil Society Organization named SeSTA. They explained transition from formation of SHG till FPC in their area. They also narrated on their improved agricultural & livestock management skills, thus informing that their income has significantly changed over the last 7 years. They further explained that only youngsters, who had good education background, could facilitate them in doing so through medium of CSO. They explained that rather than joining government & other private jobs, the talented youth came to their village & helped them prosper with their immense skill. They ended their speech by expressing induction of more students in the rural world, so that more lives can be changed for better.

A panel discussion was also organised on the occasion. Prof. S. C. Srivastava, Department of Rural Development and Agricultural Production, NEHU, Tura Campus; Prof. Abhigyan Bhattacharjee, Department of Management, and Placement Coordinator, NEHU, Tura Campus; Mr. Rajesh Singhi, Programme manager, The Buddha Institute, New Delhi; Mr. Hitendra Singh, Theme Leader, The Buddha Institute,  Ranchi; Mr. Francis R Marak, student, Department of Management, NEHU, Tura Campus and Mr. Bipin Arya, research scholar, Department of Agribusiness Management and Food Technology, NEHU, Tura Campus  deliberated on “Role on educated youth in Social Development of NE India”. Mr. Girish Agarwal, Theme leader, The Buddha Institute, Mumbai moderated the session. The panel highlighted the following discussions: 

1. Meaning and importance of Development Sector
2. Meaning of Social enterprise or Commercial enterprise
3. Real live examples of successful social development professionals & their career:

After the end of panel discussion, in the Q&A round, some students desired to know the medium to involve them more in the rural world through TBI. The moderator asked the students to record the same in hard copies & also asked the audience to fill the online google forms. Professor A. Bhattacharjee, Department of Management and Placement coordinator, NEHU, Tura Campus proposed the vote of thanks. He further requested the students to explore more about the same with TBI & other sources.
