In connection with the XXVI Convocation of the North-Eastern Hill University (NEHU), slated to be held on 4th November, 2019 a series of programmes were undertaken.
Visit to Nongsangu Village, Umsning, Ri-Bhoi District
On the 26th October, 2019, NEHU in collaboration with the NSS Unit, NEHU visited the adopted village of Nongsangu, Umsning, Ri-Bhoi District. A team of 20 volunteers from the university took part in the visit wherein awareness programmes on different socio-economic issues were conducted in the village.

The programme started with a welcome speech from the village Headman followed by an introductory speech from one of the volunteers. The awareness programme was held at the village community hall.
The student volunteers apprised the participants on the importance of maintaining cleanliness within the society and avoid the indiscriminate disposal and throwing of plastic.
They also raised awareness on the importance of proper nutrition, vaccination and need for education and their overall significance in uplifting the overall conditions of the village as a whole.
Light refreshments were served to the children of the village by the volunteers as part of the visit.
Awareness Programme on Blood and Organ Donation
On 28th October, 2019, an awareness programme on blood and organ donation was held at 1:30 pm in the Cluster of Classrooms (Social Science) wherein Dr. Hughbert Dkhar, Pathologist and In-Charge, Blood Bank, Nazareth Hospital acted as resource person.

The programme was also attended by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. S.K. Srivastav and the Pro Vice-Chancellor, Prof. H. Lamin.

Dr. Dkhar in his talk highlighted the importance of blood and organ donation as one of the ways by which individuals can help those in need. He also stressed on the importance of blood donation and the benefits to the donor’s health. During his talk he also showed the letters of appreciation to the unknown donors that were received from the recipients.
Blood Donation Camp
The following day, 29th October, 2019 a blood donation camp was organised by NEHU from 10:30 am onwards, in collaboration with the Pasteur Institute (Regional Blood Bank), Shillong.
A team of three doctors from the Institute along with 11 support staff were present to assist in the camp. Ms. A. Laloo from the Meghalaya Aids Control Society was also present for the camp.
In all a total of 71 students and teachers volunteered for this noble initiative of which 39 were donors while 32 cases were deferred.

Cleaning Drive cum Tree plantation
On the 30th October, 2019 a cleaning cum tree plantation drive was organised in the Shillong Campus which witnessed the active participation of the students, research scholars and faculty members of the university.

The members of the Research Scholars Forum, NEHU undertook the plantation of 100 saplings on the way to the Convocation Hall, NEHU to mark the event.
In line with this, a similar activity was undertaken at Tura Campus on 25th October, 2019.
